Everybody must have heard about
the Municipality of Bukowina Tatrzańska and its
magnificent landscape, the distinctive feature
of which is the panorama of the Tatras, its unique
folklore, and its attractions that draw visitors
to the region both in the summer and winter. Everybody
will find something for themselves there.
The municipality is situated at the meeting point
of two regions divided by the River Białka, a
typical rushing mountain river that springs from
the heart of the Tatras. The Podhale Region is
situated to the left and the Spiš Region to the
right of the river. The intertwining of distinct
identities, histories and cultures of the two
regions creates a unique climate of the Borderline
and accentuates the unique character of the area.
The municipality is composed of eight villages;
Bukowina Tatrzańska, which covers the ridges and
slopes of the Gliczarowski Foothills, Groń and
Leśnica, which are situated in the valleys, and
Brzegi, which is the most southward village. Białka
Tatrzańska is situated in the valley of River
Białka, on the left river bank, whereas Czarna
Góra, Jurgów and Rzepiska are situated along the
right bank and belong to Spiš.

The Bukowina Tatrzańska area enjoys unique
local climate. The warmest months are July and
August and the lowest temperatures are observed
in January and February.
Average annual precipitation amounts to 854mm.
Snow stays from December to March there, and until
April in higher situated settlements.
More than 120 days are windless, which together
with high sun exposure of the bare ridges of the
Gubałowski Foothills forms warm and dry local
climate.
No. 49 national road leading from Kraków via Nowy
Targ to border crossing point in Jurgowo and no.
960 road from Bukowina Tatrzańska to border crossing
point in Łysa Polana form the transportation axis
of the municipality.
Traveling from Bukowina in the direction of the
Tatras, you have to stop in Głodówka, from where
you can admire one of the most beautiful and widest
panoramas of the Tatra Mountains.
The municipality offers numerous and varied accommodation
ranging from guest rooms at agritourism farms
to four-star rated boarding houses. The number
of beds offered in the municipality exceeds 15,000.

Tourist Attractions in the Municipality
- THE TATRAS
The High Tatras with such highlights as Lake Morskie
Oko, Mount Rysy, Five Polish Ponds Valley and
Mount Świnica.
- Tourist Trails in the Tatras cover 210km in
the territory of the Bukowina Tatrzańska Municipality.
- Great skiing grounds with synthetic snow, lighting
and catering facilities:
- in Białka Tatrzańska; with 20 lifts, including
Palenica Białczańska chairlift
- in Bukowina Tatrzańska; with 21 lifts,
- all other villages offer at least one lift each.
- Easy hiking grounds offering the most beautiful
views over the Tatras, The Pie-niny, Gorce Mountains
and Babia Góra Mountain in the Beskidy.
- Mountain biking trails
- Rafting - rafting trips with the use of pontoon
boats and canoes over River Białka, the only Alpine
type river in Poland.
- Horse riding centers
- Famous folklore events: Sabałowe Bajania (Story
Telling Festival) and Góralski Karnawał (Highlander
Carnival)
- Contact with authentic Tatra Mountains folklore.
- The Tatras National Park covers 30% of the
municipality's area and features such highlights
as Lake Morskie Oko, Five Polish Ponds Valley,
Wodogrzmoty Mickiewicza Waterfall, Siklawa Waterfall,
Mount Rysy, Zawrat, Granaty, Żabie Szczyty, Mięguszowieckie
Szczyty, Kozi Wierch, Świnica and Orla Perć.
- Lake Morskie Oko situated 1393m above sea level,
which is 50.8m deep, 862m long and 566m wide,
is the most frequently visited pond in the Tatras.
It is surrounded by Lake Mnich /2068m/, Cubryna
/2376m/, Mięguszowieckie Szczyty /2438, 2393,
2404m/, Pod Chłopkiem Mountain Pass /2307m/ and
Mount Rysy /2499m/. To the west, the cirque is
closed by the ridge of Mount Miedziany /2235m/
and to the east by the Żabie Szczyty Mountain
Range /2259, 2098 and 2079m/.
- Czarny Staw Pond is situated above Lake Morskie
Oko, in harsh rock scenery, 1580m above the sea
level. It is 70.4m deep, 578m long and 444m wide.
- The Five Polish Ponds Valley is one of the wildest
and most beautiful postglacial valleys in the
Tatras. It is surrounded by the soaring peaks
of Mount Gładki Wierch /2065m/, Walentkowy Wierch
/2156m/, Świnica /2301m/, Zawrat /2158m/, Kozie
Wierchy Range /2228 and 2291m/, and Granaty Range
/2234, 2240 and 2225m/. Mount Wielki Wołoszyn
/2151m/ closes the valley. Water reservoirs were
formed there from glaciers, and surprisingly there
are six, not five of them: Przedni Staw, Mały
Staw, Wielki Staw, Czarny Staw, Wole Oko and Zadni
Staw. The ponds are one of the largest attractions
of the Tatras. Wielki Staw Pond is the longest
/998m/ and deepest /79,3m/ pond in the Tatras.
It is also the largest water reservoir in the
Tatras /13m m3, which constitutes 1/3 of total
capacity of all ponds in the Tatras/. It covers
an area of 34.14ha and is only slightly smaller
than Lake Morskie Oko. Water, which falls out
Wielki Staw Pond, creates famous Wielka Siklawa,
the largest waterfall in Poland /70m/. Zadni Staw
Pond, which is situated in the Pod Kołem Valley,
at the upper level of the Five Polish Pond Valley,
is the highest situated pond on the Polish side
of the Tatras.
