Municipality of Gniewino
A Good Place for Tourists
|
|
|
|
No more boring weekends. Until
recently, the residents of Tri-City and its surrounding
areas were deprived of inexpensive, but attractive
options to spend weekends with their families
in the country. The problem also concerned tourists
who were interested in finding a wider choice
of recreation offers than those usually provided
by summer resorts. Today, they can go to Gniewino,
a wonderful location by Lake Żarnowieckie with
a recreation offer that is unique in the whole
region.
The Municipality of Gniewino, located some 30
km north of Gdynia and Wejherowo, has enjoyed
rapid growth and its authorities have been committed
to taking advantage of its tourist potential.

If you are interested in visiting the fascinating
sites surrounding Lake Żarnowieckie, the largest
lake in the Northern Kaszuby Region, you will
enjoy a cruise on the Nadolanin Excursion Boat.
And if you want to catch a bird's eye view of
the lake you will be entranced with the 160 meter
high John Paul II Tower offering a spectacular
scene, in which elements of the surrounding landscape
form the shape of an eye; hence the name of the
recreation complex that will be opened here in
the spring, Kaszubskie Oko, the Eye of Kaszuby.
This will include a four-section botanical garden,
a go-cart course, mini golf and other sports facilities.
Another new site is the Gniewino Cultural Center
offering bowling, a cinema and theatre hall, as
well as many other attractions. This will be opened
to visitors in early summer.

To enhance the attractiveness of its tourist
offer, the Municipality is seeking a partner who
would like to invest in the construction of the
newly designed hotel complex. Entrepreneurs who
wish to find out more about the project are advised
to contact the Municipal Office in Gniewino.
The Municipality also offers an indoor swimming
pool, a stadium and a unique recreation center
called Trzy Korony (Three Crowns) in Gniewino.
Another attractive place is the outdoor museum
in Nadole, which is the site of the annual Krancbal
Folk Festival, from where the pilgrimage by water
and on foot from Nadole to St. Anna's Fair in
Żarnowiec sets out. The area has also many manor
houses and palaces, which have been converted
into hotels, restaurants and riding stables.
The development of tourist attractions is a crucial
element of the municipal authorities' long-term
plans. The most recent idea in this respect is
connecting Lake Żarnowieckie with the Baltic Sea
via a canal along the line of the River Piaśnica.
To implement this concept, Gniewino, together
with the Municipality of Krokowa, has launched
a project called Żarnowiec Tourist Zone. The aim
is very ambitious and will require the cooperation
of many communities.
Starting with the upcoming summer season, growing
numbers of visitors will be able to find out that
Gniewino is indeed a fantastic recreation site
surrounded by water and forests. The municipality
already is a symbol of clean energy thanks to
our hydroelectric power station, several wind
power plants and solar collectors as well as the
energy willows that we grow and use in our area.
Its present goal is to become a major attraction
for sports and active recreation-loving holidaymakers
in the Kaszuby Region.
