Słupsk
is in Vogue!

Several years ago, due to its
unique atmosphere, beautiful tenement houses and
multicultural character, Słupsk was called -Little
Paris-. Situated in only 18km distance from the
Baltic Sea, today it is one of the most beautiful
towns in the northern Poland. Favorable location
near the sea and main transit routes determines
the role the town plays in the region. Numerous
sights are the main attribute of Słupsk with over
one hundred years old Town Hall built in the neo-gothic
style being its flagship. In the summer season,
numerous seaside resorts complement the tourist
offer of Słupsk. In the recent years, economic
revival and influx of external capital have been
observed there and new investments placed in the
town are worth hundreds of millions of zloties.
In order to make the Słupsk Region more attractive,
together with neighboring local authorities, we
plan to reactivate a civilian airport in Redzików
near Słupsk. The Słupsk Special Economic Zone,
which is ten years old, is a magnet that draws
prospective investors. I consider the establishment
of the Zone as one of the major professional successes
of mine. Achievements in the field of foreign
cooperation, including the signing in 1987 of
a cooperation charter with the English town of
Carlisle and Finnish Vantaa reflect the openness
of Słupsk to the world.

A year later, German town of Flensburg became
a twin city of Słupsk. In 1997, in recognition
of our contribution to the process of European
integration, our town was awarded the Honorary
Plaque of Europe and earlier we have been awarded
Honorary Diploma of the Council of Europe and
Honorary Flag of the Council of Europe. At present,
we are applying for the Council of Europe Award.
Słupsk is also a laureate of several prestigious
awards and honorable mentions for investment and
ecology-friendly activities, to mention the title
of Patron of Polish Ecology, Modernization of
the Year 2004 award and the first prize in the
2006 Rating of County Capitals staged by the Association
of Polish Towns. Słupsk is also famous for its
cultural activity. Each year, the best Polish
women-artists attend the Festival of Female Arts
staged there. Music lovers are well familiar with
the Polish Piano Festival, which for forty years
has been held in Słupsk. The festival meets top
international standards and attracts the most
distinguished piano players and fans of music.
Thanks to recently modernized and newly built
sports facilities, the town has been appointed
the host of 13th Polonia Olympic Games, which
will be held on July 28 - August 4, 2007. Apart
from sports competition, the main goal of one-week
games, is the integration of Poles living abroad.
Last November, when signing the agreement for
the staging of the Olympic Games, prof. Andrzej
Stelmachowski, President of the Wspólnota Polska
Association told me: We want to show our compatriots
that the northern and western region of Poland
is developing fast and fast progress is observed
there. We are about to lay the foundation stone
for the games. We are making the next step directed
at the tightening of bonds between the Polonia
and the mother country. Soon, Słupsk will greatly
contribute to the tightening of the bond.
Welcome to Słupsk - a friendly and open town!
