Polish Ecology Leader

wersja polska

Police with almost 40 thousand residents is a versatile town, which, until recently, has only been associated with its large chemical plant. However, the extensive industrial development has not disturbed the balance within the natural environment and this year Police received the prestigious “Polish Ecology Leader" title in the urban and rural municipalities subcategory. Participating in ecological competitions has become a tradition for Police, which has been confirmed by numerous awards and honorable mentions that the town has won. Already in the 6th edition of the “Polish Ecology Leader" 2001-2002, the Municipality of Police was awarded an honorable mention for their comprehensive projects in the field of environmental protection. The continuation of activities aimed at sustainable development and the protection of natural resources has resulted in Police winning the prominent title in the 10th edition of the competition which was held under the patronage of Lech Kaczyński, President of the Republic of Poland. This esteemed prize has been awarded since 1997 by the Ministry of Environment to honor those who contribute to improving the condition of the environment in Poland and the quality of life of the country's inhabitants.

The Program Board of the competition appreciated Police's innovative and modern technological solutions, as well as the educational activities aimed at sustainable development within the municipality. Winning the “Polish Ecology Leader" title confirms the local authorities' involvement in the implementation of ecologically, economically and socially effective projects in the field of environmental management. These have included a series of noteworthy infrastructural investments that enhance the municipality's development, protect the environment and improve the living conditions of the local population. The systematic and successful implementation of these important pro-ecological projects has led to discernible effects in the management of municipal waste, water supply, wastewater disposal and the town's green areas.

The “Polish Ecology Leader" title is the second prestigious award won by the Municipality of Police in 2007. Earlier this year, in June, the town was declared “The Most Ecological Municipality of 2004-2006" in a competition organized by the Marshal of the Zachodniopomorskie Province and the Provincial Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management. Being a two-times winner of ecological competitions proves that the local authorities were right to make the sustainable and modern management of the environment a top priority, especially that the implementation of innovative technological solutions that ensure high environmental protection standards has also made the town more attractive to investors. In August this year, Infrapark Police SA signed an agreement with the Portuguese PRIO. The investor bought 8 hectares of land, on which they will build a plant which will process rape seed and soy bean oil for the fuel industry.
The Infrapark Company manages the Police Industrial Park. It was established in 2004 with the aim of providing favorable investment conditions and access to innovation. The offer of Infrapark Police includes land sale and lease on preferential terms, and supplying media at lower than free market prices as well as providing easy access to information about investment areas and their technical conditions. The Police Industrial Park is a real estate complex covering a total area of 137 hectares. It comprises 13 basic areas that can be joined or divided, according to the investors' requirements. Over 10 hectares of the Park holds the status of a sub-zone of the Kostrzyn-Słubice Special Economic Zone. The grounds within the Park are provided with utilities and have direct access to roads and railway lines, as well as to a sea and river port. The stakeholders of Infrapark are Zakłady Chemiczne “POLICE" SA (POLICE Chemical Plant), the Municipality of Police, the University of Szczecin and the West Pomeranian Regional Development Agency. The signing of a notary deed with such a large investor as the Portuguese PRIO allows the management of Infrapark to hope that they will attract more such investors. It should be stressed that Infrapark has been very successful in applying for EU developmental funds which enable systematic improvements in the investment sites and their effective management.
