The Bielsko Biała County In the Heart of Europe
|
|
|
|
The Bielsko-Biała County is
situated in the southern part of the Śląskie Province,
at the foot of Beskid Ślaski and Beskid Mały Mountains
and Wilamowicki Foothills. It encompasses ten
municipalities that surround the City of Bielsko-Biała.
The county's greatest assets are its all-year
tourist attractions, which include excellent winter
sports facilities. Szczyrk, the pearl of the region
and Poland's second largest (after Zakopane) skiing
resort, offers over 50km of ski routes served
by 30 ski lifts among which the chairlift to Skrzyczne
Mountain (1257m) is one of the major attractions.
In the summer, tourists can enjoy nearly 200km
of marked tourist trails and 110km of cycling
routes located mainly in the area of Szczyrk,
Jaworze and Jasienica. Fans of water sports will
be attracted to the picturesque manmade lakes
on the Soła River and the canoeing marinas in
Czechowice-Dziedzice and in Kaniów. Other attractions
include riding stables and paragliding in the
Skrzyczne area, whereas the climate features of
Bystra and the iodine and brome waters in the
municipality of Jaworze make them the perfect
locations for recovering from pulmonary, allergic
and limb disorders.

But the natural surroundings are not the only
features that contribute to the attractiveness
of the region. Its extensive tourist and recreation
facilities as well as the numerous historic and
cultural sites are of equal appeal giving evidence
of the area's diversified history and traditions.
Apart from castles, palaces and manor houses that
provide tourists with an insight into the lives
and traditions of the aristocracy and the nobility,
there are also numerous examples of rural architecture
like the wooden churches in Stara Wieś, Bielowicko
and Szczyrk.
An excellent tool which facilitates the access
of visitors to the available facilities and sites
was created through the implementation of the
Construction of the Local Tourist Information
System in Bielsko-Biała and the Municipalities
of the Bielsko-Biała County Project.

The European Regional Development Fund as part
of Objective III Local Development, Activity 3.2
of the Integrated Regional Operational Programme
assisted the project financially. The Project
was launched in August 2006 and completed in July
2007. Its implementation was based on an agreement
made between the ten municipalities of the county,
the City of Bielsko Biała and the Bielsko-Biała
County Administration, who was also the Project
Leader.
The objective of the Project was to create a Local
Tourist Information System (SITBB). The system
comprises 14 stationary information booths. One
such booth is situated in each of the County's
ten municipalities and four are located in Bielsko-Biała.
The SITBB also includes one portable booth, which
can be used for presentations during domestic
and international fairs and exhibitions as well
as being an additional information point located
in the Bielsko-Biała County Office.
The SITBB is a source of information about the
tourist attractions, accommodation, catering facilities
and events in the region. All information that
can be obtained at the booths is provided in Polish,
English and German, and is also available on www.sitbb.pl
The direct objective of the Project is to improve
the condition of tourist information infrastructure.
The SITBB will make the region more attractive
to tourists and more competitive in relation to
others. It will also ensure the region's proper
promotion during tourist fairs. Consequently,
it will make tourists more interested in the region
and lead to a higher number of visitors. This,
in turn, will enhance the region's economic potential.
The Bielsko-Biała County offers such a vast number
of attractive venues that any visitor who comes
there once will want to revisit the hospitable
and beautiful area.
