Environmental Priorities
of the Chrzanów County
Interview with Janusz Szczęśniak

- It is common knowledge
that the Chrzanów County actively participates
in environmental activities. What are the most
important achievements in the field?
- We approach the environmental issues on a comprehensive
basis. The most important environmental activities
on the part of the Board of the Chrzanów County,
managed by me, include actions taken in respect
of disposal of medical waste and other hazardous
waste, disposal of asbestos and cement wastes
generated on private premises (in the entire Chrzanów
County) to waste disposal sites, as well as actions
taken in the field of thermal insulation of buildings:
The Compound of Economic and Chemical Schools
in Trzebinia, the District Center of Geodetic
and Cartographic Documentation in Chrzanów, the
Social Welfare Center in Płaz, the Special Purpose
Educational Center in Chrzanów, the buildings
owned by the District Cultural Center for Youth
in Trzebinia and the District Employment Agency
in Chrzanów. Apart from that, we have been committed
to animal winter feeding campaign, taken part
in the construction of two floating platforms
for birds in the old river-bed of Vistula (in
Rozkochowo) and we have supported the fish stocking
campaign and provided financial aid for bee-keepers.

- The problem of infrastructure constitutes
an important component of the Developmental Strategy
of the Chrzanów County in the years 2006-2015.
Is the District efficient in obtaining funds for
this purpose from non-budgetary sources?
- This is a key issue. Developing infrastructure
shall ensure the development of the entire county.
In order to take care of the physical condition
of the local community members, we have decided
to erect sports halls and gyms in various locations
within our county. Soon, we will commission a
sports hall with a beautiful adjacent area at
the Technical and Service Schools in Trzebinia.
This facility will be available not only for the
students of this school, but also for the local
community. Already this year, the inhabitants
of Chrzanów will be able to enjoy the new sports
field located at the Secondary School of General
Education No. 2. Yet another facility that would
certainly become a showcase of our county authorities
is the building located at 3 Focha street. It
will house the Pedagogical and Psychological Counseling
Center, Sports Center for Youth, the Third Age
University and Educational Center. We have obtained
funds for the construction of the sports hall
in Trzebinia from the Fund for the Fundusz Rozwoju
Kultury Fizycznej (Development of Physical Culture).
Apart from our financial contribution, this project
was also supported by the Trzebinia local authorities.
Ibelieve that the project for the development
of the building located at 3 Focha street will
be financed not only from the budget of the Chrzanów
County. We will do our best to obtain external
financing.

- How would you characterize the cooperation
between individual municipalities as regards the
development of the road network?
- During the present term of office, we have managed
to develop a harmonious cooperation between the
county authorities and the individual municipality
governments. The latter ones are willing to contribute
to investment projects pertaining to county roads.
Thereby, it will be possible to modernize most
district roads. Within the next few years, we
plan to modernize an important traffic route in
Chrzanów, namely the Podwale Street. Moreover,
we also intend to modernize the road linking Trzebinia
with Alwernia and to rebuild the so-called traffic
circle of seven roads in Libiąż.
