Welcome
to Miastko!
|
|
|
|
Although Miastko neither features
an old market place nor a Teutonic Order castle
and some tourists ask whether it is a town or
a village, residents of the Town and Municipality
believe that the region is well worth a visit.
It is so because the Municipality of Miastko is
famous for clean air and clear water, as ecology
has been the apple of local authorities' eye for
years.
The Miastko Municipality is quite extensive and
covers an area of 466.82km2, which makes it the
sixth largest administrative unit in the country.
The municipality is full of natural and tourist
attractions. It is impossible to refer to all
of them, but it is worth mentioning the most important
ones, such as wind power plants in Wałdowo, which
are the only wind turbines in the Region of Słupsk,
and water power plants in Kawczyn, as well as
crayfish and sturgeon farms. Golfers can play
their favorite game at the course in Biała or
take a lesson from Edmund Macionga. Other attractions
in Miastko include a sports and entertainment
hall at the junior high school. Residents of large
cities wouldn't mind using these facilities. Moreover,
in the Miastko region you can find the Alps, or
Alpy in Polish, which is the name of a local village.
You do not need to go to Austria to feel like
in Tyrol and views are as beautiful. Tourists
like to visit the Hamer spring, hunters' tepee,
St Hubert's chapel situated in woods and follow
five tourist and hiking trails, including one
around Lake Bobięcińskie Wielkie. Covering an
area of 524.6ha, it is the largest in Poland and
one of the largest lobelia lakes in Europe.

The Miastko region is famous for numerous beautiful
lakes; there are 150 lakes in the municipality
alone and 30 of them are larger than 10ha in area.
You will see unforgettable landscapes along the
route of rolled up tracks, which you will never
find in other parts of Poland. Forests abundant
with wild mushrooms and berries cover almost 50%
of the municipal area. Tourists are looking there
for a legendary Rummel, a brigand who stole goods
from the rich and gave them away to the poor.
In Ponikła, they will find remnants of the estate
of Maks Schmeling, a famous German boxer and world
champion of all times. Schmeling lived near Miastko
for seven years, and today Ponikła is becoming
a top venue visited by the fans of the boxer.
Miastko is also known as a melting pot for several
cultures, as Ukrainian and German minorities live
there along with people originating from the Kaszuby
and Kresy regions. Unique events are organized
there, to mention Magam Trophy, an off-road rally
and cultural feasts such as Cabaret Gala, Festival
of Dancing Music Groups in the Pomorze Środkowe
Region, the Kaszuby Saturday, Festival of Miastko,
Festival of the Disabled Associations, as well
as several tourist events, including foot orienteering
and cycling rallies. The region is situated not
far from the coast, which in the summer is mainly
crowded... whereas the Municipality of Miastko
offers peace and quiet, which is the prerequisite
for relaxation. Welcome to Miastko!
