transportation and catering, where the private sector plays a crucial role. Macro Cash and Carry and Auchan, who have built outlets in the city, have become an
indispensable element of the economic landscape of Sosnowiec. In addition, the city offers attractive opportunities for investments in the Sosnowiec-Dąbrowa Sub-zone of the Katowice Special Economic Zone, whose sectors
are strictly related to existing areas of manufacturing activity. What is most important is the fact that development of the areas has already started. Several institutions, including the Agencja Rozwoju
Lokalnego (Agency for Local Development), Stowarzyszenie Kupców Polskich (Polish Trade Association), Cech Rzemiosł Różnych (A Trade Guild) and Regionalna Izba Przemysłowo-Handlowa (Regional Economic and Industrial
Chamber) promote entrepreneurship in the region. Sosnowiec is also an important scientific and educational center. Cultural institutions, especially the Zagłębie Theater, whose centenary was celebrated in 1997, the
'Extravagance' Municipal Art Gallery, Jan Kiepura's Club and the Municipal Museum are very active in the town. The museum located in the Schoen Palace, a historic building from the 19th century, houses a unique
exposition of glass exhibits. Sports have a long tradition in Sosnowiec. Last year, city authorities decided to expand the existing
infrastructure and build an all-season sports and recreation center |
