Myszków is a City of the Future and of Opportunity |
|
|
The Mayor on the City After the local elections in 1998, the City Council entrusted me with the position of Mayor. It is an
honor for me to be the head of the council in a town that is constantly changing and growing. Myszków has 34 thousand inhabitants, of which 62% are of working age. The town's location is also
attractive. Myszków is located at the intersection of important rail lines and roads between Warsaw and Silesia. In spite of the closing of local state-controlled industry, there are large and medium-sized
private companies doing business in the town. The town has 100% share of the Housing, Municipal and Water Supply Companies. In 2000, we will finish work on our Town Strategy. Long term Investment Plan and
Financing Plan will also be prepared. This venture will allow us to transform the image of the town over the next 10 years and achieve its most important
goals. Also, every two years we organize the International Festival of Folklore Groups, hosting performers from all around the world and the Polish Boxing
Tournament for "Black Diamonds", which enjoys enormous popularity among sports fans. We are open
to economic proposals. We stress education, culture and sports. We avail of vast deposits of natural resources, large industrial potential and well-trained professionals
Natural Resources In 1993, the only vein of molybdenum, tungsten and copper ore in Poland and in Europe was documented here. Exploration drilling performed from 1982
to 1986 confirmed the existence of a field of mineral deposits of tungsten, molybdenum, and copper with the following elements: Cu to 4.7%, Mo to 0.98%, and W to 1.12%. |

Further work on the 0.5 sq. km area from 1987 to 1990 confirmed a vein of industrial-grade ore, in which trace amounts of elements were found that
can affect the quality of the ore, including gold (Au), silver (Ag), selenium (Se), tellurium (Te), bismuth (Bi) and cerium (Ce). With constantly diminishing natural resources in Poland these deposits can not only
enrich the Silesia region but also bring significant benefits to the entire country's industry. "The development of industry means not only jobs, but also the development of our infrastructure and an entire
network of services. This is an opportunity for at least the next three generations to have permanent jobs, chances for growth and promotion. It also means taxes for the town. It is therefore something
worth fighting for. This is why we are doing everything we can to interest as many people in this subject as possible who have any kind of influence on the decisions of our country" explained Zygmunt Ratman, the
Parliamentarian from the Myszków region. An Honorary Citizen of the Town of Myszków During a special session of the City Council on June 6, 2000, marking the 75th anniversary of the formation of the Myszków
municipality and the 50th anniversary of the award of a town charter, Jan Kułakowski, the
Government's proxy for Negotiations on the Membership of the Polish Republic in the European Union received the Title of Honorary Citizen of the Town of Myszków and a commemorative medal.
This great man was born in Myszków and spent his childhood here. It was a great honor for the town of Myszków that Minister Jan Kułakowski decided to accept the offer of the title. |
