A City with Ambitions

Wołomin is a city of 50,000 located 20 km northeast of Warsaw.  Though its history spans 800 years, it has not been treated generously by progress, which has assigned it the role of a foyer or entryway along the road to the great capital.  Though this may still be accurate in a certain sense, the city has now established itself as a place with its own intrinsic value and identity.
Wołomin's location in the near vicinity of a major rail line and transit routes to Russia and Lithuania has always been an advantage for it.  In the early years of this century, a glassworks, brickworks, and numerous merchants and tradesmen were already operating in the town.  Wołomin has also skillfully taken advantage of the beauty of its natural assets, including numerous forested areas and nature preserves, which have made it an appealing place for health resorts and summer homes.
But the

city did not begin to really develop until after World War II, when large-scale industry first appeared. Currently, construction joinery, oil and gas exploration, and plastics production are the city's dominant industries, while general and vocational education is also on the rise and more and more people are moving here.
Wołomin today is above all a county seat with its own administration, which is fully prepared to host even the largest industrial investments, particularly those in light industry, electronics, housing construction, tourism and recreation.   It is also an excellent location for businesses, especially transportation, storage, and wholesale companies.  The town has large investment sites to offer including a number located downtown with all necessary hookups and utilities in place.  The fact that land prices in Wołomin are low in comparison with those in other municipalities outside Warsaw is also important to potential investors.  In the near future, the city will begin wide-scale modernization of the roads connecting it and the surrounding municipality to Warsaw and nearby transit routes.

The city is already fully prepared to serve the needs of investors.  For instance, a number of large banks have branches in the city, providing services to individual customers and companies alike.  A number of government agencies and institutions are also located in the city, including a court, prosecutor's office, and land registry office, as well as city government, tax, and Wołomin County administrator's offices. The city hosts an impressive array of schools of various types, whose graduates comprise a well-trained, skilled potential workforce.  Moreover, local businesses support such institutions as the Wołomin County Chamber of Commerce and the highly active Wołomin Business Club, which affiliates business people from various sectors, including people involved in production, providing services, commerce, export, import, etc.  There is also a Craftsman and Entrepreneur's Guild and, and local craftsman's organization for companies from the Mazowiecki Province.  It is also worth noting that the municipality requires local companies to strictly adhere to all environmental norms and regulations,

especially since in three years the city will become part of a protected landscape region, which has been created within the former Warsaw County (now part of the Mazowiecki Province).
Wołomin can certainly not be considered a mere hallway to the metropolis of Warsaw.  Today, it is a city with its own plans and ambitions, which it has been able to consistently carry out.
