Śląska oaza

Chcielibyśmy przedstawić naszym czytelnikom jedno z najpiękniejszych śląskich miast. Racibórz ze swym bogatym dziedzictwem kulturalno-historycznym jest jednym z najstarszych ośrodków miejskich województwa śląskiego.
Ma ponadtysiącletnią historię. Prawie wszystkie epoki zapisały się w nim bogatą architekturą i sztuką, której część zachowała się do współczesności.
Walory przyrodnicze i krajobrazowe położonego w Bramie Morawskiej Raciborza, a także unikalny charakter otaczającej go roślinności, zdecydowały o utworzeniu wspólnie z Polską Akademią Nauk na terenie Lasu Obora pierwszego na Śląsku arboretum - ogrodu botanicznego służącego badaniom i prezentacji roślin.
Warto również wspomnieć o przepięknym leśno-stawowym rezerwacie przyrody "Łężczok" położonym u granic miasta, stanowiącym część Cysterskich Kompozycji Krajobrazowych. Na powierzchni 396 ha zaobserwować można ponad 150 gatunków ptaków, a gniazduje tutaj około 90 gatunków.
Dobrze rozwinięta infrastruktura komunalna, w tym nowoczesna oczyszczalnia ścieków i takież składowisko odpadów, edukacja ekologiczna na wysokim poziomie - to tylko niektóre z działań miasta na rzecz zachowania bioróżnorodności oraz naturalnego środowiska. Obecnie Racibórz, jako pierwsza gmina w Polsce i najprawdopodobniej jedyna w Europie, wdraża system zarządzania środowiskowego według normy ISO 14001.
Tylko patrzeć, podziwiać, zazdrościć i się uczyć.

Jednym z najważniejszych atutów Raciborza jest centralne położenie w stosunku do stolic europejskich oraz dużych aglomeracji miejskich po obu stronach granicy.
Poważną barierą rozwoju miasta jest jednak układ transportowo-komunikacyjny, a w szczególności brak szybkich tras drogowych. Nie dziwi więc znaczenie dla miasta budowy drogi regionalnej Racibórz-Pszczyna, która przez węzeł w Krapkowicach połączy subregion południowo-zachodni z autostradą A4. Dla harmonijnego rozwoju miasta, które chce zdyskontować swój wielki atut: położenie w sąsiedztwie dwóch przejść granicznych (Chałupki, Pietraszyn), jest planowana budowa śródmiejskiej obwodnicy centrum, wokół której powstanie centrum komunikacyjne i logistyczne obsługujące ruch transgraniczny.
W Raciborzu poważnie zainwestowało kilka zagranicznych firm. Przykładem Henkel Polska SA. W ostatnich latach w mieście zainwestowały również: Statoil, DEA, Mini Mal. W najbliższym czasie firma Louis International zainwestuje w centrum spedycyjne, natomiast w Zakładach Elektrod Węglowych zwiększa swe zaangażowanie niemiecka firma Carbon AG.
Miasto ma opracowaną strategię rozwoju, przygotowane tereny inwestycyjne. Do najbardziej atrakcyjnych terenów należy 16-hektarowa działka z częściowym uzbrojeniem przy drodze prowadzącej do Gliwic, przeznaczona pod inwestycje przemysłowe.
Mimo że Raciborza bezpośrednio nie dotykają skutki restrukturyzacji górnictwa, miasto stara się aktywnie walczyć z bezrobociem. Władze miasta przywiązują dużą wagę do powstawania nowych miejsc pracy, sprzyjają rozwojowi tradycyjnie zdywersyfikowanej gospodarki, o czym świadczy polityka podatkowa gminy, zachęta i pomoc instytucjonalna dla inwestorów, a także konkretne działania w postaci np. uzbrojenia terenów przemysłowych. O dobrych intencjach w ładz samorządowych niech świadczy fakt przekazania znacznych środków na odbudowę firm poszkodowanych w powodzi w 1997 roku.
Można by jeszcze długo wymieniać zalety i walory tego śląskiego miasta. Ale myślimy, że najlepiej będzie je po prostu odwiedzić, może na dłużej? Zapraszamy serdecznie do Raciborza.

Historically, this is the oldest city in southern Silesia.

We would like to present to our readers one of the most beautiful cities of Silesia. Racibórz, with its rich cultural and historic heritage, is one of the oldest town centers in the Silesian Province with a history dating back almost one thousand years. Almost all the ages left behind rich architecture and pieces of art, part of which remained until present times.
The natural and landscape virtues of Racibórz, located in the Morawska Gateway, as well as the unique nature of the surrounding vegetation, were decisive in the establishment in collaboration with the Polish Academy of Science of the first arboretum on the territory of the Obora Forest. This is a type of a botanical garden that serves research purposes and for presenting plants.
It is also worth mentioning here the enchanting forest and lake natural reserve called Łężczok located on the city borders, constituting part of the Cistercian Landscape Compositions. Over an area of 396 hectares one can observe over 150 species of birds of which 90 are constantly nesting.
A well-developed municipal infrastructure, where a modern wastewater treatment plant and landfill, and a highly developed environmental educational program are only a few examples of the city's activities  aimed at preserving its biodiversity and natural environment.
At present, Racibórz, is the first municipality in Poland and probably the only one in Europe to implement an environmental management system according to the ISO 140001 standard. Look, admire, envy and learn!
One of the main assets of the city is its central location in relation to European capitals and large city agglomerations on both sides of the border.
However, the transport system and the absence of expressways is a serious obstacle to the city's development. Therefore, the importance of the regional road Racibórz- Pszczyna, which via the junction in Krapkowice will join the south- west sub-region with the A4 highway,  for the city is not surprising. The harmonious development of the city, which wants to discount its great asset, i.e., its border location in the vicinity of two border crossing points (in Chałupki and Pie-traszyn) will be supported by the planned construction of a Central Ring Road, which will be accompanied by a transport and logistics center servicing cross-border traffic.

A few foreign companies, such as Henkel, have made considerable investments in Racibórz. Recently new investors include STATOIL, DEA and Mini Mal. Soon LOGIS International will invest in a shipping center and the German company Carbon AG is increasing its involvement in the Carbon Electrode Plant. The city has a development strategy and has prepared investment sites. The most attractive areas include a 16-hectare plot partially equipped with utility hook-ups, along the road leading to Gliwice, designated for industrial investment.
Although Racibórz is not directly affected by the results of the mining industry's restructuring, the city is working to actively fight unemployment. The city authorities are paying special attention to the establishment of new workplaces and supporting the development of a traditionally diversified economy, which has been proven by the municipality's tax policy, institutional assistance and encouragement for investors, as well as specific actions, such as equipping industrial areas with  utility hook-ups.
The allocation of considerable funds for the reconstruction of companies damaged during the 1997 flood is indicative of the good intentions of the local authorities.
We could go on and on listing the advantages and virtues of this Silesian city. But we think a better idea is to visit it, and perhaps stay a little longer?
