Cieszyn

Legenda głosi, że w 810 roku, po długiej rozłące spotkali się trzej królewscy synowie: Bolko, Leszko i Cieszko, i z wielkiej radości spotkania miasto Cieszyn założyli. Historycy twierdzą, że Cieszyn powstał pod koniec X w. jako gród państwa Polan. Jest więc jednym z najstarszych miast w Polsce. Od XIII do XVII w. pozostawał pod panowaniem cieszyńskich Piastów. Później był rządzony przez Habsburgów. W 1920 roku miasto zostało podzielone na Cieszyn i Czeski Cieszyn.
Leżąc na styku różnych narodowości, kultur i wyznań, jest miastem o niepowtarzalnym klimacie, pełnym atrakcji turystycznych. Stanowił i stanowi centrum dla całego Śląska Cieszyńskiego. Jest stolicą powiatu cieszyńskiego oraz Euroregionu Śląsk Cieszyński.
Cieszyn zachował swój średniowieczny układ urbanistyczny z wieloma zabytkami architektury. Do najciekawszych należą: romańska rotunda św. Mikołaja z XI w., Wieża Piastowska z XIV w., Ratusz i kamienice przyrynkowe, secesyjny teatr projektu sławnych wiedeńskich architektów, Książnica Cieszyńska z najcenniejszym na Śląsku zbiorem starodruków i inkunabułów. W dawnym pałacu Larischów znajduje się 200- -letnie Muzeum Śląska Cieszyńskiego. Atrakcją turystyczną jest związana z legendą o założeniu miasta Studnia Trzech Braci. Ostatnie odkrycie znakomitej XVI-wiecznej rzeźby Madonny z Dzieciątkiem, a także prowadzone prace archeologiczne świadczą o tym, iż lista cennych zabytków nie jest jeszcze zamknięta.
Bogaty jest kalendarz wydarzeń kulturalnych, największe to: Festiwal Muzyki Wokalnej "Viva il Canto", Międzynarodowy Festiwal Teatralny "Na Granicy", Święto Trzech Braci, Dni Teatru, Dekada Muzyki Organowej, Chóralnej i Kameralnej, Wieczory Muzyczne na Zamku i in.

Cieszyn

Legend has it that in 810, three royal sons: Bolko, Leszko and Cieszko encountered each other after a long separation. They were so pleased to see one other that in order to commemorate the lucky event, they founded the town of Cieszyn (Polish cieszyć stands for being pleased). However, historians claim that the city was founded as a Polish settlement at the end of the 10th c. Whoever is right, the city undoubtedly is one of the oldest in Poland. From the 13th to 17th c, it remained under the rule of the Piast Dynasty of Cieszyn. In the later period, the Habsburg family ruled the town. In 1920, it was divided into Polish and Czech Cieszyn.
Located at the meeting point of various nations, cultures and religions, the city has a unique atmosphere and lots of tourist attractions. It has served as a hub for the Cieszyn Śląski region and the capital city for Cieszyn County and the Śląsk Cieszyński Euroregion.
In Cieszyn, the medieval street layout and numerous historic sights have been preserved to modern times. Among the major sights is an 11th c. St Nichola's Rotunda, a 14th c. Piast Tower, the Old Town Hall and tenement houses in the Market Square. Moreover, the Theater Building designed by famous Austrian architects in the Art Nouveau style and the Cieszyn Library, with the most precious collection of old prints and incunables in the Śląsk region, are among many other attractions. In the old Larisches' Palace, the 200-year old Museum of the Śląsk Cieszyński region is situated. The Three Brothers' Well is a tourist attraction related to the old legend about the foundation of the town. Archaeological research conducted in the town and a recently discovered 14th c. sculpture of the Madonna with Child have proved that the list of precious historic monuments has not yet been completed.
The rich cultural offer of Cieszyn includes the Viva il Canto Festival of Vocal Music, the Borderline International Theater Festival, the Festival of Three Brothers, Theater Festival, Organ, Choir and Chamber Music Festival, Music Nights in the Castle, and many other events.
