Gorzów Wielkopolski
- CITY FOR INVESTORS
|
 |
|
|
|
Being the capital city of the
Lubuskie Voivodship, Gorzów Wielkopolski is the
biggest city in central and western Polish-German
borderland. It stretches over an area of 86 km2
and has nearly 130 thousand residents. It is located
40 km away from the western border (some 120 km
to Berlin, Poznań and Szczecin). Here is located
an intersection point of the major international
traffic routes from Scandinavia to the Balkans
and from Germany to the Baltic countries.
Gorzów is an economic center of the region thanks
to its highly qualified engineering resources
and well developed industry, mainly chemical,
textile, machinery, wood, as well as agricultural
and food processing.
The city's economic potential was highly praised
in the City Guide Polska 2001 ranking conducted
by Warsaw Business Journal. In the business climate
forecasts for the coming 5 years, Gorzów is ranked
as the fifth city in Poland, leaving behind such
locations as Warsaw, Poznań and Kraków. Also,
favorably assessed were the city's job market
quality, general business climate, and competence
and efficiency of city authorities.
Entrepreneurs, including those from abroad, are
increasingly more interested in launching their
businesses in Gorzów. The inflow of capital is
stimulated with tax relief for employers creating
new work positions, as part of the Municipal Unemployment
Mitigation Program. Together with the Balanced
City Growth Strategy and Construction Development
Strategy, the program outlines the directions
and priorities for the economic and social policies
of the city authorities.
