Like in Paradise
An interview with Roman Ramion,

- Over 100 lakes 1 ha in area,
38 that are 10 ha in area and 8 original lobelia
lakes, as well as extensive forests - a geographical
description of Miastko alone sounds like an advertisement.
- Local area is a true paradise for tourists.
50 per cent of the municipalitys area is covered
with forest, mainly mixed. The lakes are another
advantage, the lobelia lakes just mentioned, for
example, have concentrations of a rare plant species,
water lobelia. And it is noteworthy that as many
as 11 out of 163 Polish lobelia lakes are located
in the Miastko Municipality. The water in a bulk
of these lakes has been rated Class 0 and Class
I according to surface water quality standards.
The unique ecosystems are also worth mentioning.
These natural values contributed to the inclusion
of Miastko in the European Network of Areas of
Special Conservation. Located in the Pomeranian
Lake District, it is a perfect vacation destination.
The conditions for launching specialized and unconventional
tourism projects (the latter includes bird watching
and photo tourism, so-called bloodless hunting")
are especially favorable in the town and municipality.
Crystal-clear lakes are ideal for sailing, windsurfing
and diving. Visiting our famous trout and sturgeon
farms is an additional attraction for anglers,
apart from angling, naturally.
We also invite history and monument lovers to
visit our numerous park-and-palace complexes,
churches, a medieval stronghold and a barrow cemetery.
And those who like curiosities will certainly
not be disappointed with a visit to the amber
grindery in Świerzno. Thus, it is not surprising
that we strongly emphasise the development of
tourism in the municipality spatial planning.
One interesting way we promote Miastko is a partnership
with the German town of Bad-Fallingbostel.

- The people in Miastko seem particularly
open. The place, typical of Pomerania, is a melting
pot of many cultures, including Polish, German,
Kashubian and, after WWII, the inhabitants of
the former Eastern Polish borderlands, as well.
- This multinational character offers opportunities
for tourism, as well. The people of German origin
have extensive families in Germany, with their
members arriving to spend their vacations here
both individually and on package tours. Apart
from the environmental values, they find our folk
groups, bands and choirs organized by the people
of Ukrainian origin a great attraction. Besides,
German tourists never leave without buying some
works of Ukrainian handicraft. A lot of Germans
are also interested in purchasing and renovating
manor houses or summer bungalows. We are very
pleased with such investments, since they generate
additional jobs for local people.
- A number of municipalities invest a lot to
improve their infrastructure and, consequently,
to attract more capital, and not only from abroad.
- Well, it advances the municipalitys development
and arouses potential investors interest. However,
that is not everything. Promotion of the municipality
is equally important. That is why we organize
the Festival of Miastko, participate in fairs
and exhibitions, and use the Internet to distribute
our investment offers. We consider it crucial
for Miastko to project an image of a dynamically
developing, attractive and visitor-friendly municipality.
- Do you invite business people representing
any particular branches?
- The character of the municipality especially
encourages investors representing the tourist,
agricultural, food, and timber sectors. The location
of Miastko on the national road leading to the
seaside also influences the development of roadside
services, such as gas stations and motels.
