Będzin -
A Friendly City

wersja polska

A unique history and abundant nature, these are the factors that have shaped the Będzin landscape.
Thanks to the attractive viewing areas, each visitor to the city on the Czarna Przemsza River (that used to be surrounded by a 1,000 m of fortifications and 13 keeps) can admire picturesque views and historic sights among green scenery. The main local sites include a Castle, St Trinity Church, St Dorothy's Church and the palace of the Mieroszewski and Ciechanowski family, including manor buildings and park complexes. At the turn of the 20th c, industry became the main developmental factor in Będzin, so the local landscape also includes former industrial sites that need to be reclaimed, such as the facilities of Brzozowica strip mine and Grodziec Cement Plant (established in 1857), the first such plant in Poland.

Today, although we can estimate the importance of industry, we know now how to avoid the bad experiences of our ancestors and prevent the degradation of the environment. In Będzin, care for the town's cultural heritage and respect for the natural environment are important elements of local community awareness. The condition of the city environment and improvements in its aesthetic attributes, as well as efforts to achieve a spatial order, keeping the city clean and caring for fauna and flora are issues close to the hearts of local residents in Będzin. A strong emphasis is placed on ecological education of the children and youth. Each year, all local nursery, primary and secondary schools actively participate in the "Clean Up the World" action and "Earth Festival". The local administration provides financing for "Ecological Workshops" and in the municipality ecological routes are established in areas with special natural attributes. For over 10 years, educational camps have been organized at the Ecological Education Center in Rogoźnik to make children and their parents acquainted with ecological issues.
The Będzin Municipality works to create an image of the town as being friendly to nature and to people. "A Program for the Protection of the Air in the Będzin Municipality" directed at low emissions has been developed along with a six-year implementation schedule. In order to achieve the expected ecological and economic results, all entities responsible for the emission of pollutants must join the Program and financial securities for the enterprise must be sought at all available sources.
To encourage local residents to give up coal fueled heating, the municipality has implemented a system for co-financing from G.F.O.Ś. and G.W. in a project aimed at the elimination of solid fuel powered heating systems.
Moreover, local authorities have undertaken to create a modern system for municipal waste management. A draft project for Waste Management System has been developed in cooperation with DEPA-DANCEE Danish Environmental Protection Agency.
However, ecology is only one aspect of reality. While appreciating its advantages and existing potential, the town consistently follows the guidelines of "the Strategy for the Development of Będzin" to improve its "weak points". It has already managed to develop its hotel infrastructure. Six cycling routes have been prepared and a competition for "the revitalization of the historic area of the Grodziec cement plant" has been decided.
When a town is aware of its weak points, works consistently to eliminate them knows where to acquire funds from, and more importantly, has a strong determination to achieve its goals, it is bound to succeed.
