Drawieński
National Park
|
|
|
|
Drava is the name of a river
that originates in Italy, runs through Austria,
Slovenia and Croatia to empty into the Mura River.
However, there is another river with the same
name that flows in Poland and which has been a
favorite spot of Karol Wojtyła. The Pope-to-be
was enchanted with the Polish Drawa, which is
the most picturesque canoeing route in the Pomorskie
Lakeland district. In its old-growth forests,
rich fauna and flora have been preserved among
the picturesque scenery of the river, whose current
at points has the strength of a whitewater river.
On May 1, 1990, this area was incorporated into
the Drawieński National Park.
Throughout the Park's 11,000 hectares, the postglacial
landscape of the Drawska Primeval Forest is protected.
In the valleys of the Drawa and Płociczna Rivers,
which periodically flood, alder river carrs and
unique ash and elm trees, and marshy meadows are
found. In the treetops, live the kingfisher, goosander,
and common goldeneye. In the rivers, populations
of trout, bull-head and salmon can be found. In
the Park, beaver and otter live, and the latter
is depicted in the Park's emblem.
Moreover, in the forests of the Drawieński National
Park, over a dozen of lakes are located, the largest
being Lake Ostrowieckie with an area of 387 ha.
Tourists who come to the Park in large numbers
say that this is the most beautiful lake of the
Pomorskie Lakeland. As early as before WWII, three
islands situated on the lake had the status of
nature reserves, as cormorants, ospreys, and eagle
owls nest there and populations of lake trout,
powan and white-fish populate the waters.

CZŁOPA
|
|
|
|
|
The Człopa Municipality is located in
the southwestern part of the Wałeckie Lakeland
along domestic road no. 22 leading from
the Polish-German border through Gorzów
Wlkp. to Gdańsk. The history of the town
is over 755 years long and dates back to
the early times of the Piast state. Because
of its turbulent history, the historic layout
of its center was completely destroyed.
At present, spatial development plans describe
the Ziemia Człopiańska region as a territory
with ecological properties. Beautiful forest
complexes that constitute 72.5% of the municipal
area, more than 40 lakes, 15 of which are
made available to anglers, clean rivers
and no industry polluting the natural environment
are among major advantages of the municipality.
Nature lovers will find here a unique calciphilous
mountain plant called sedge, as well as
rare species of roses, and orchids. In the
forest, wild boar, deer, badger and chase
game that live in its natural environment.
In the marshy ground, a rare mud turtle
lives. In 2001, an 18-km trekking and cycling
trail was established along the shores of
the Człopsk lakes to promote the tourist
attractions of the region. Building a state-of-the-art
sewage treatment plant and ecology-friendly
landfill and hooking up a majority of local
households to a sewerage network are among
the main investments of local authorities
that guarantee quality recreation in clean
environment. Investments in the municipal
infrastructure are conducive for the development
of entrepreneurship, mainly in the timber,
processing and agritourism sectors.

TUCZNO
|
|
|
|
In the Tuczno Municipality, one of the
20 largest confectionery manufacturers in
Europe operates without impairing the recreational
character of the region. Not only those
with a sweet tooth for chocolate are attracted
to Tucz-no. The restaurant in the local
Gothic-Renaissance castle, where you can
come for a weekend, a holiday, or to a conference
or seminar, also offers splendid cuisine.
Ludwik Wedel built the castle in the shape
of a horseshoe in 1338. It was reconstructed
in 1846 and features such architectonic
details as fitted ornaments made of sandstone
placed along windows and sgraffito. Tourists
interested in history, apart from the numerous
historic churches, can visit a shelter complex
situated in Wisielcza Góra, a 151 m tall
hill, which constitutes an element of the
Wał Pomorski fortifications.
Also naturalists will find major attractions
in Tuczno, including impressive oaks, whose
trunks have a circumference of 7 m. Local
reserves protect Lake Głodne and Sicienko
and the Płociczna River. Lake Głodne includes
a complex of dystrophic lakes, and in Lake
Sicienko you can find leather leaf, which
is one of the area's most precious plants.
Until recently, Płociczna was also a spawning
ground for redfish. Last but not least,
Lake Bytyń Wielki is an area with well-preserved
natural conditions.
