Luboń is a town located in the
center of the province of Wielkopolska. The town,
with a population of 24,000, covers an area of
13.5 sq km. Among its asset is its proximity to
transport routes. Luboń borders Poznań to the
north. National road no. 5 connecting Poznań with
Wrocław runs in the vicinity of the town's western
border. Another major route, regional road no.
430, runs through the eastern part of Luboń. To
the north of the town, along the Luboń-Poznań
border, runs a section of the A-2 motorway, which
is also part of the Poznań by-pass road.
Luboń is directly accessible from the motorway
via an exit road (at the intersection of the motorway
and road no. 430). Another exit road (at the intersection
of the motorway and road no. 5) runs in the immediate
vicinity of the town. Both interchanges are connected
by a frontage road along the motorway. Additionally,
a section of the Poznań-Wrocław railway line,
complete with a railway station and cargo siding,
runs through the eastern part of Luboń. What is
more, the town is located only 15 km off the Poznań-Ławica
airport.

Luboń has seen a remarkable inflow of new residents
in recent years. The continuing trend is being
driven by the ongoing development of an area of
100 ha into a new town center. The new town center
is a large area in the middle of Luboń. The municipality
has been acquiring land in the area for several
years with a view to building streets and for
public green spaces. To secure the necessary funds,
the municipality has issued bonds.
About 2800 businesses of varying sizes and organizational
structures operate in Luboń. Among them are companies
with foreign shareholders. There are also 6 banks
operating in the town. About 30 % of the town's
budget is allocated for town development.
The 2003 Hit Prize Goes to Luboń
Luboń town authorities have won recognition in
the Poznań region for their achievements. The
town has been awarded the 2003 Hit Municipality
statuette and accompanying title. The prize was
awarded for acquiring outside funding for a town
project by cooperating with the consortium engaged
in the construction of the motorway. The town
project in question was the Luboń by-pass road,
which runs along Dębiecka and Unijna Streets.
The awards ceremony took place in the assembly
hall of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań on
15th February. The prizes were awarded by local
boards (for the Kalisz, Konin, Leszno, Piła and
Poznań regions respectively). The 2003 Hit Municipality
statuette for Luboń was received by mayor Włodzimierz
Kaczmarek.
