Tarnowskie Góry undoubtedly
is the most important center for the history of
silver ores in Poland and Europe. This history
also gave origin to the name "Silver Town- that
has been bestowed on Tarnowskie Góry. It was in
1528, that the "Ordunek gorny-, the first mining
act published in Polish was announced to local
miners. The Historic Silver Ore Mine and Black
Trout's Drift have been considered monuments of
history. As a result, the town has been included
in the list of 25 most precious historic buildings
and complexes in Poland, among such major cities
as Kraków, Gdańsk and Wrocław.
In our famous mine, 40m under the ground, you
can follow the only in Poland underground tourist
route allowing for sightseeing in a silver heading.
You can observe there miners' workstations and
tools, as well as karst formations. Local attractions
include a 600m long boat trip under the ground.

In order to commemorate the past, for over
40 years, "Gwarki Tarnogórskie- city festival
has been held in the first half of September.
The event celebrating history and culture is held
with observance of old mining traditions of the
region. A colorful march down the town's streets
resembling the medieval procession is the most
important part of the program.
In the past, several grand personalities, among
them King John III Sobieski, Queen Marysieńka
and Jochan Wolfgang Goethe were under the spell
of the town. Today, among celebrities who visit
Tarnowskie Góry and are most welcome there is
Prof. Jan Miodek, a famous Polish linguist who
was born in the town. Each year, hundreds of thousands
of tourists attracted by magnificent architecture
and town-planning, unique former mining structures,
exceptionally picturesque nature and numerous
opportunities for leisure activities come to the
town, which has preserved a large part of its
rich tradition and history of silver mining. Everyone
wishing to visit Tarnowskie Góry will find something
interesting for themselves. The historic old market
with beautiful arcades and one of the most elegant
town halls in the Silesia region constitutes the
heart of the town. Fans of sports and recreation
can enjoy a Water Park, one of the most modern
in Poland and a horse stud in the nearby Zbrosławie,
as well as Sports Valley - all-year skiing center
situated on the border of Tarnowskie Góry and
Bytom. Several historic churches, palaces and

Changes are easily noticeable in Tarnowskie
Góry. Thanks to renovated buildings, such as historic
Sedlaczek's tavern with Town Museum on the first
floor, old Under the Angel Pharmacy, and arcaded
tenement houses along the main pedestrian area,
the old town is growing to be more beautiful each
day.
Local authorities mind that the development of
Tarnowskie Góry includes all basic aspects of
day-to-day local residents' life, such as roads,
efficient communication and heating systems, as
well as all other elements that improve the comfort
of living. They especially care for the future
of the youngest residents of Tarnowskie Góry.
A long-term plan for the operation of local system
of education has been developed, under which the
municipality works to promote schools that are
student friendly and ensure appropriate intellectual,
social and physical development. Several elements
of the program have been completed already this
year. The fact that we are a part of united Europe,
whose member countries care for their citizens,
motivates the town to keep up with others.
Welcome to Tarnowskie Góry - the town of unique
historic monuments and modern attractions.
