Electrolux and Colgate-Palmolive have placed their bets on Świdnica. Soon, land for industrial investments may be lacking, however, a lot of entrepreneurs still have chances for running a business there. Investments in hotel catering and housing industry are the most welcome, and leaves and incentives are aplenty.

In 2005, Świdnica was on the mouths in several parts of the world. In Sweden, because of the decision of the local Electrolux company to invest in Świdnica; similarly in America, because Colgate-Palmolive giant chose it as a new investment venue, and in Germany, where the headquarters of Krause Co. is seated. Also in the Japanese city of Aichi, with whom Świdnica has established relations as one of the few local governments in Poland.
The decisions of large investors and smaller ones who have chosen Świdnica as the place for their investment have not been taken by accident, but have been a result of three years of hard work. This will help others find work, because in the two years time, more than 2,000 jobs will be created in Świdnica.

To draw investors
with a leave
- Economic development and giving opportunity for work to all residents of Świdnica have been our key priorities, says Wojciech Murdzek, Mayor of Świdnica, and adds: despite difficult financial condition of the town, we lowered real estate taxes for all entrepreneurs. As one of a few in Poland, we let them not pay the tax even for ten years, obviously provided they meet specific criteria. Moreover, we have not raised taxes on vehicles. We also assist investors in going through the maze of regulations. In addition, we prescribe a given project to one official only. All of this has been done to ensure a better service and more efficient support to investors.

Incentives
for hotel owners
The number of free plots has been decreasing from week to week.
- However, those wishing to start or expand their business in Świdnica will always find new plots, mayor Murdzek ensures.
Together with new investors, a new need has arisen; the development of hotel, catering and tourist industry, as well as sports and recreation facilities.
- You do not live by work alone, jokingly say authorities of Świdnica.
And seriously speaking, they have just developed and introduced a special package of services for those starting activity in these sectors.
- It is enough to employ one person to obtain a real estate tax leave. To larger investors, we offer leaves that last up to ten years, says mayor Wojciech Murdzek.
Innovative ideas
The city is not afraid of innovative ideas. When in Poland only discussions were held about public and private partnership, in Świdnica works already began on the construction of a council house built in a similar system. A consortium selected by way of a tender has already built one apartment block. The residents of the block, probably as the first in Poland, have bidden their rents. The cities of Poznań and Kraków have already been interested in the pioneer method of council housing settling.
And the housing sector is picking up. A housing cooperative, which for years has not considered the construction of a new building, is working on specific plans now. Social Construction Company is about to finish one investment and start the next one.
- Recovery is clearly visible in several sectors. Those who use the opportunity will benefit for sure, however, they need to make decisions fast, says the mayor of Świdnica.
