Środa - Entrepreneurial Town
in the Wielkopolska Region

Środa - Attractive to Investors
Środa Wielkopolska, a county capital with a population
of 22,000, enjoys extremely favorable geographical
location. The town is situated near Poznań, the
capital of the region, with which it is linked
by no. 11 national road. Moreover, north-south
main railroad line, which links the Baltic Sea
coast and the Silesia Region, runs through the
town. Another strength of the town is A2 motorway,
which after its completion will link Moscow and
Berlin, and its nearest hubs, which are situated
in only 25-kilometer distance from Środa Wielkopolska.
This is a major factor affecting consistent growth
in the number of business entities registered
locally. However, it is micro-entrepreneurs, small
and medium-sized businesses that play a pivotal
role in the region and provide employment and
income to local residents.

Środa - the town offering
investment sites
In order to meet investors' expectations, the
municipality prepares spatial development plans,
which comprise land earmarked for business activity.
Where it has been possible, existing plans have
been amended in order to expand sites assigned
for investments. Numerous investments made by
the municipality to increase utility supply undoubtedly
form an element boosting the attractiveness of
these sites. Among the latest large undertakings
in this field has been the construction of the
first north-west section of the beltway for Środa
Wielkopolska, which is to free the downtown from
transit traffic heading to Poznań, Swarzędz, Kostrzyn,
Nekla and Września. Thanks to co-financing from
EU funds amounting to 75% of qualified costs,
a traffic circle and dual carriageway, pavements,
cycling routes and storm water drainage system
carrying rainwater to two collectors will be put
to use. This investment will contribute to enhanced
attractiveness of the town, and in particular
this of sites situated along the newly planned
street.

Środa - the low tax town
Competitive rates of local taxes constitute the
magnet attracting capital. Preferential rates
binding in the Środa Wielkopolska Municipality
apply both to local residents and business entities
and are among the lowest in the whole region of
Wielkopolska.
Earlier this year, rates of several taxes have
been once again reduced in the municipality. Up
till the end of the previous year, tax rate stayed
at the level introduced in 2003, when on the initiative
of Wojciech Ziętkowski, a newly elected town mayor
they were reduced as compared to the previous
year. A large majority of local governments raise
taxes each year, whereas Środa Wielkopolska guarantees
that they stay at the same level or are even lowered.
Moreover, entrepreneurs building new or adapting
buildings for the purpose of running business
operations are offered real estate tax leaves.
The leave is granted for a period ranging from
1 to 5 years and is dependant on the number of
newly employed workers.
More than 110 companies, including these with
foreign capital, mainly coming from Germany, have
chosen Środa Wielkopolska as their seat. They
are both plants built from the scratch and capital
investments made in privatized former state companies.
What is more, two companies listed on the Warsaw
Stock Exchange have used the offer of the municipality.
